about

SHAKE 'N' BAKE

lyrics

Well you can’t Can no tomatoes without tending your vines
That’s a Lesson learned from living off the land
And you won’t Make good pickles unless you cook up some brine
That’s One thing you got to understand
Well your Mind’s got to get up early
And your Body’s got to bend, not break
And if you want to go out with a smile on your face
You got to make time to shake and bake

About a year ago I was planting my corn
Rows straight as Hollywood blocks
But 12 weeks later I went back up in that field
And it was nothing but corn and stalks
Well I cursed all those deer, coons, and opossums
For partaking in what should’ve been mine
Then I went back to the barn with a guitar and a jug
Of some homemade watermelon wine

Some years the snow melts at the end of February
Other times it’s the first of May
Whenever that frost finally leaves your ground
You gots to get up and plow today
Cause it’s sure better to be a spring chicken
Than to wind up as a silly goose
And when the seed’s all in at the end of the day
It’s time to get tight and get loose

You know it’s dry and hot as Hades in the summer
And the kids want to go for a swim
But there are thunderheads on the horizon
And you got to get the crops all in
After you pick all those beans, corn, and taters
And cover up all the grain
Well it’s time to break out that banjo boy
And we’ll go dancing in the rain

A couple of guitars underneath the stars, and an upright bass, a sax full of chaw, and a musical saw, and an old time pace, an open back banjo, a tater bug mandolin, and amazing grace.
